What is the difference between a coach and a trainer?

A trainer designs a learning experience to transfer defined knowledge or skill, explains, demonstrates, corrects and assesses learning. A coach begins with the client’s goal and context rather than a curriculum to be delivered. The same professional may train and coach, but the role should be made explicit because the source of expertise, responsibility and success criteria differ.
