What does active listening mean in a coaching session?
Active listening goes beyond hearing words to following meaning, context, tone, hesitation and shifts in language while resisting the urge to prepare an early response. The coach summarises neutrally, invites correction and uses silence when it supports thinking. The purpose is not merely information gathering, but helping the client hear and examine their own thinking more clearly.
